The Darlus Silman Humphreys Memorial Scholarship was established by James F. Humphreys, owner of James F. Humphreys & Associates, L.C. in honor of his late mother, who wished to attend college but was financially unable to obtain a college degree. Now a successful personal injury attorney, James Humphreys wants to ensure that other young women who dream of going to college are able to, no matter their financial circumstances.

The scholarship fund was created with a $200,000 donation from James Humphreys and has provided $80,000 to young women pursuing a bachelor’s degree at West Virginia University. Any female graduating from Nitro High School and planning to attend WVU is encouraged to apply for the annual scholarship.
